Dear Jim,
Thanks for the message.. I must tell you I intend to give my wife a surprise with the immediate purchase of the piece. Also If you’d like to know, I’m relocating to the Philippines soon and our wedding anniversary is fast approaching. So I’m trying to gather some good stuff to make this event a surprise one. I’m okay with the painting and the price (“Expectorating Parrot with Hands”2016 Oil on canvas 22 x 30 $1499) I think it’s worth it anyway, so I’ll be sending a check…

As regarding shipping, you don’t have to worry about that in order not to leave any clue to my wife for the surprise. as soon as you receive and cash the check, my shipping agent (who is also moving my personal effect) will contact you to arrange pick-up.. I would have come to purchase the piece myself but, at the moment, am on training voyage to the North Atlantic Ocean (I’m an ocean engineer) with new hires who are fresh from graduate school and won’t be back for another couple of weeks..
Regards!

PS: In the meantime, kindly get back to me with your full name (you want the check payable to) cell phone no. and contact address (preferably for USPS OR UPS not P.O box) where a check can be mailed to so I can get the check prepared and have it mailed out to you asap.. Thank you!

Dear Walker,
I’m so pleased you are purchasing “Expectorating Parrot with Hands” 2016, oil on canvas for your wife’s anniversary gift! That one is especially celebratory. I know she will love it.

It’s so interesting you are moving to the Philippines. My wife’s coworker knows someone who was just there eight years ago. She said he said they said it was gorgeous! I’m sure it will be a big change from Oregon!

I know all about dramatic life changes like that, too. I grew up in Ruckersville, Virginia, where my papa owned a bakery. His name is Paul and his business partner’s name was Peter, so they called the place PP’s Pie Hole. They were in business for 15 years and folks would come from all over the county for Papa’s pies, until someone found an eyeball in their cherry turnover and the health department shut them down forever.

We had to pack up and move all the way to Palo Alto, where Papa got a job at Facebook. He misses his days at the Pie Hole, but he enjoys being around all those millennials. He says it makes him feel young again, and he’s almost 70 years old, so that’s saying a lot. As for me, I moved to New York City 10 years ago and that’s where I still live and work today.

It’s too bad you won’t be able to come visit the studio in person, but I understand you’re all the way out on the west coast. As far as sending the check, do you need my studio address? Or my home address? Please advise. Thanks!
Best,
Jim

Thanks for getting back to me Jim. You can get back to me with either of the two.. But I will appreciate if you can get back to me with the address that will be more preferable for you to receive the check..
Walker

Ah, okay. I think it will depend on how you send the check, because the buzzer for my building is broken. Do you know if you will be sending it through FedEx, DHL, UPS or WWF? If it’s one of those, I’ll give you my neighbor Pepper’s address because they can ring her buzzer and she’s home all the time. Something happened to her toe and she can’t walk on it. If you’re sending it through USPS I can just put a note on the door for them to call me because they’re usually pretty good about that.

Sorry to be so complicated. I have to take my kids to their Tae kwon do class now, but I’ll be back in a half an hour.
Best,
Jim

Hi Walker,
I’m back from Tae kwon do class with the kids. Do you know how you’re going to send the check? Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes Jim. I will be sending the check through USPS.

Ok, just to be safe, would you mind sending it to me at my neighbor’s address so she can sign for it? I noticed we have a different mail carrier this week and he may not be willing to call me since my buzzer doesn’t work. Plus, my son, Easley, was suspended from school for coming to class with his favorite basketball player’s face shaved into his head. It’s ridiculous! He’s just a huge Mindaugas Kuzminskas fan and wants to play with the NY Knicks one day, but the principal said it was distracting to the other students. Can you believe that? I’m going to be quite busy dealing with that whole situation this week so I might not be at home. Please send the check to:

XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Brooklyn, NY 11205

Thank you so much!
Jim

Dear Jim,
Thanks for the details which I’ve noted down, My wife handles the family credit card/bank issues, and in order not to leave any clue to her for the surprise, I’ve contacted a client of mine to issue out a check which will include my shipping agent fees to you, But courtesy demand i must first appeal to your self interest and ask for your help in remitting the overage (after deducting your fee for the piece) to the shipping agent as soon as the check clears.. I would have handled this much differently if I’d been at home but am a bit pressed for time as our anniversary is fast approaching and do not have access to a lot of cash over here to expedite this transaction…. trying to kill two birds with a stone. kindly deduct any IRS tax incurred on the overage before giving the balance the shipping agent. they are not sending any bill or hold you responsible for the payment of my shipping contract with them.. I am really sorry for the mixup and will appreciate if you get back to me asap to know if i can entrust you with this transaction.. Many thanks and talk to you soon..

Dear Walker,
I totally understand! So don’t worry, you can count on my to help you keep the surprise for your wife. I’m just excited that my painting, “Expectorating Parrot with Hands” 2016, oil on canvas, will be going to a good home. And the sale comes at a very fortunate time, indeed, since I’ll be having some additional expenses coming up for a new art project I am working on. It will involve a lot of surgery.

OK, keep me posted on when you send the check and I will be in touch.
Best, Jim

– – –
Dear Walker,
Do you have all the info you need from me to send the check? I await your response.

Yes Jim, I have all the info I needed. I will keep you updated with the tracking once the check has been mail out to the info you provided
Thank you.

OK, thanks. And sorry to have bothered you. Yesterday was quite hectic as I had to meet with Easley’s school principal to discuss his suspension. I think things are finally resolved. It’s a good thing I took that hypnosis class!

By the way, I’m always curious about what kind of art my collectors like. Does your wife have other contemporary artists in her collection? Does she like mostly painting, or other media, as well? I can’t wait to hear her reaction when she received her anniversary gift from you…
– – –
You are right, Walker. It is none of my business what kind of art you have in your collection. I am sorry to be so nosy. I’m just excited about this sale, and so are my wife and kids because they hate that painting and don’t want it in the house anymore. But they don’t understand contemporary art. In fact, my 3-year-old daughter, Addison, is always walking around saying, “Daddy, I could have done that!” But really, what does she know. I mean, she’s 3.

Anyway, please let me know when to expect the check. I still haven’t received it.
Best, Jim

Hello Jim, the check has already been mail out to the information you provided, I will keep you updated with the tracking as soon as possible..
Best Regards,
Walker

That’s just fine, Walker. I will make sure my neighbor, Pepper, knows it’s on the way. She’s still at home with a foot injury she got during a recent trip to the South Pacific, so I’m pretty sure she’ll be there when it’s delivered. By the way, how long have you been an ocean engineer?

I was telling my daughter, Addison, that’s what you did for a living and now she says that’s what she wants to be when she grows up. She really is adorable, if a little derivative.

WALKER ARE YOU RECEIVING MY EMAILS?

Hello Jim, sorry for the late response, I will keep you updated with the tracking as soon as possible. you have a very intelligent daughter, I will like to have a chat with her when am back in town.. My Regards to Addison.
Best Regards,
Walker

I’m sure Addison would love to chat with you, Walker. I’m sorry for the all caps on my last message – I was trying to teach Addison to type on my computer when she threw up some puréed carrots onto my caps lock key and it got stuck. I finally cleaned it up and it seems to be working now.

And yes, please keep me posted on the tracking.
Warmly,
Jim

Hello Jim,
I just want to inform you that the check will be delivered to you anytime soon and here is the USPS tracking number (9470101699320030842211) for confirmation, you can easily get it track via http://www.usps.com to know when exactly it will be delivered to you..

Anyway, as soon as you receive the check, kindly take the check to your Bank and get it deposited, i have already been informed that the check will get cleared in your account within 1 or 2 business days, but in some exceptional cases the funds are available immediately. You would please recall that I explained in my email earlier that my shipper is also helping me move some of my properties along with the piece. So, the balance on the check is to cover the shipping fees as agreed.

Kindly email me ASAP, so I can give you the shipper’s information and instructions on how to remit the balance to the shipper.. My Shipper will contact you to make arrangement for an appropriate time for the Pick Up of the Piece asap…
Thank you for the update, Walker. I’m headed out the door to pick up Easley from school, but I’ll see if my wife Mackenzie can track the package and see if it was delivered to our neighbor’s house yet. She may contact you while I’m gone. Okay Jim, I will be waiting to hear from you.

From: Mackenzie Hominy-Gaylord
Hi Walker,
This is Jim’s wife, Mackenzie. He asked me to deal with tracking the package you sent while he went to pick up Easley from school. He may not be back for a while because they sometimes stop to play basketball on their way home.

Hello Mackenzie,
Your husband Jim told me, get back to me as soon as your receive the package.
Thanks,
Walker

Will do. I’m sitting here with Addison and she is just so excited to hear about your job as an ocean engineer. Any interesting things happening with your work today? She just loves the ocean…

That sound good, My regards to Addison, I plan to chat with her once am back in town.

Addison has a question for you. We’re teaching her to type so I’ll let her write it herself:
DO U NO ANY MERMADES?
She wants to know if you know any mermaids. She’s still learning to spell, but she’s still so cute right?

Hello Addison, Have not come in contact with any mermaid before, But mermaid are beings that live under the water. she is trying, I can easily understand her message.

Yes, she is very precocious for just 3 years old and we are quite proud of her. Sometimes I think she is even smarter than Jim and me! She says she thinks you should buy a submarine so you can see the mermaids. Oh, Addison!

That is true.. she is quite intelligent for her age. I promise to take a picture and send to her when i come in contact with a mermaid..

Walker, hi. I’m so sorry, Addison and I were doing yoga and we completely lost track of time. I just tracked the package you sent and I see it was delivered to our neighbor Pepper’s house.

walkers_check.jpg

Okay, that sound good, i need you to proceed and get the check deposited at your bank.

I’ll have to ask Jim to pick it up on his way home. Addison is taking a nap right now. We just finished meditating and she’s awfully sleepy, but I’ll be sure to tell her what you said about photographing that mermaid when she wakes up!

Okay, Thanks Mackenzie.

You are very welcome! And you won’t believe this but I told Addison what you said about taking a picture of the mermaid and she asked me, “Do you think Mr. Dora knows mermaids aren’t real?” And then she said something I didn’t understand because it was in Latin. That’s our little smarty pants!

Tell Addison i personally think mermaids are real.

She says you must be “nana.” That’s her word for clinically insane.

Hi Walker,
This is Jim again. I just stopped by our neighbor Pepper’s house to pick up the check, but she didn’t come to the door. I know she’s home because I could hear loud organ music coming from inside – she plays the organ. I will try again in the morning, but don’t worry because all the banks are closed for the day anyway. Sorry to be getting back to you so late. Easley got in trouble in school again today, this time for “Tebowing.”

Okay, Kindly deposit the check first thing tomorrow morning.

Yeah for sure. Mackenzie has gone to work and I just need to drop the kids off at the pool. They’re getting a head start on their swimming lessons before summer. And then I can go over and see if Pepper is awake. I could hear her playing maniacal organ music until 2am and then she started in on the drums. I think she’s really stir crazy over there since she’s been laid up with that toe injury.

Okay Jim, let me know once you do.. Thanks

Walker, you are not going to believe this. I was just talking to our other neighbor, Fern Moody, and she told me Pepper doesn’t have a toe injury. She has an ankle bracelet and is under house arrest for indecent exposure at the 141st Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! I don’t even want to know the details, but I’m kind of afraid to go over there to be honest…

What do you think I should do?

You don,t have to be afraid, All you need to do is walk up to him and tell him you came for the package he receive for you..

Pepper is a woman. It just makes me uncomfortable – what if she comes to the door with no clothes on? I guess that’s her thing.

Oh I see, You can ask Fern Moody to go with you if you are afraid of going by yourself.

That’s a good idea. Fern Moody used to be a guard at Shawangunk Correctional Facility, so she has seen it all! I will see if she’s busy.

– – –
Well, Fern and I went over to Pepper’s and got the check. I think I can safely say that now I have seen it all!

Thank you, kindly take the check to your Bank and get it deposited, i have already been informed that the check will get cleared in your account within 1 or 2 business days, but in some exceptional cases the funds are available immediately. once the funds is available email me back so I can give you the shipper’s information and instructions on how to remit the balance to the shipper.. My Shipper will contact you to make arrangement for an appropriate time for the Pick Up of the Piece asap…

OK, I will deposit the check shortly, but first I want to tell you what happened. Fern and I rang Pepper’s buzzer over and over, and after about 10 minutes she finally came to the door dressed up as a Golden Retriever. Fern and I were both flabbergasted, but somehow we still remembered to ask for the check. Pepper fetched it from inside a large doghouse in the corner of her living room and we got out of there as fast as we could! You just never know who your neighbors are…

Thank God you and Fern are safe now. Has the check been deposited by now?

Yes, I deposited it a few hours ago and have been trying to relax after all the mayhem earlier. Little Addison was just doing an origami demonstration for us and then we all enjoyed some charcuterie with kumquat relish and fig jam. It’s just about bed time here so I bid you goodnight!

By the way, Mackenzie and I noticed that the check you sent is from Mary G. Gonzales. Is that your mom?

Good Morning Jim, How long will the check takes to clear at your own bank? Because we’ve been debited here this morning from our bank account and once the funds is available to you either today or tomorrow kindly email me back so i can provide you the shipping instructions on how to pay the shipping company.
Will be waiting to hear from you soonest.

OK, do you mean “we’ve been debited” as in you and Mary G. Gonzales, which is your mom?

Yes, So you need to check with your bank if the funds is available. So I can provide you the shipping instructions on how to pay the shipping company.

Oh, ok. Well I’m sure I have enough in the bank to cover it until it actually goes through, so let’s just move forward with the transaction. What could possibly go wrong?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your prompt response, Please it would be highly appreciated if you kindly forward the overage to the shipping company today without much delay as the funds will be needed to register and do all necessary paperwork for these goods prior to pick up. Otherwise there would be a late delivery which would ruin the plans for my anniversary. As soon as they receive the funds from you, they will give you a call to make arrangement and schedule a convenient pick up time with you. All you have to do is to go to any Bank of America Bank Branch around you with the overage $2,400 (In Cash) and make a CASH DEPOSIT of $2,200 to the shipping agent information below and make use of the remaining $200 for your gas fee to the bank:
Account Number: 002912963217
Account Name: ADEOLA IDOWU
Bank Name: Bank Of America

As soon as you get this done today, please email me back with a picture of the deposit slip for confirmation so I can get it across to the shipping agent and we can coordinate pickup asap.
PS: You have to go with the cash in your hand and ensure the funds is pay as Cash Deposit.

Thanks for your understanding and hope to read from you soon.
God Bless!

Hi Walker,
Unfortunately I think I ate some rancid quince paste this morning after Mackenzie and I finished our oatmeal foot rubs. I have been vomiting up bruschetta for the past hour! Hopefully I will be feeling better soon. I will let you know as soon as I do…
Do you have any tips for relieving nausea? Mackenzie and I have tried everything and we are desperate to find something to stop this puking! Thanks so much!

Hello Jim, I don,t know tips for stopping it, But I know you will be relieved after a while. Transfer the funds to the shipping company and get back to me with the confirmation slip once you get better. Thanks.

That’s all right, Walker. Lil’ Addison has been looking up some homeopathic remedies online and she’s making me some tea from willow bark, black pearl and wood from the Helvetia shipwreck of the Rhossili Bay in Wales. It sounds strange to me, but these days kids are smarter than us grown-ups so I’ll try it!

Okay, That sound good, You should feel better after taking it.
– – –
Have you forward the overage to the shipping company? Get back to me with the confirmation slip?

Sorry for the delay, Walker. And yes I sent the money to Adeola Idowu, but I’ll have to look for the confirmation slip tomorrow. It was on my desk earlier, but I saw Addison doing something with my papers and now I can’t find it. I’m sure it’s around here somewhere. Thanks for your patience!

Good morning Jim, My shipping company said they have not been credited by you yet.

Really?? That’s so strange. They told me it would go through, but I was so out of it yesterday from my food poisoning, maybe I misunderstood. I will go to the bank and see what happened.

Send the confirmation slip that was given to you at the bank yesterday? So I can forward it to the shipping company

I finally found that confirmation slip. It seems lil’ Addison was at it again with her origami wizardry… Oh, Addison!

  1. So, so, so funny. I just got one of these scam emails today. My favorite line in this is ‘She says you must be “nana.” That’s her word for clinically insane.’
